Co-directed by OceanFolx graduate Marsela Arnanda and award-winning filmmaker Maddie Meddings, and produced by Maddy Bolt and Eight Peaks, Batur Segare - meaning friend of the sea - is a new OceanFolx documentary.
Centred on OceanFolx, the film amplifies the voices of women who are redefining their relationship with the ocean, transforming a history of exclusion into empowerment, confidence, and stewardship.
Co-created with local filmmaker Marsela Arnanda, the documentary is produced in Bahasa Indonesia (with English subtitles) and will be screened in community spaces across Indonesia before reaching global audiences. Beyond entertainment, the film uses storytelling to inspire ocean access, protection, and women-led education.
We have the opportunity for a small number of aligned partners to support the film as it begins an international tour in May 2026.
